Speaker: David Lysack, President & CEO, C Speed LLC
Abstract: In 2012, C Speed LLC completed the first UK trial with independent oversight of its Lightwave radar over one of the most challenging wind farm clutter environments in the UK - Whitelee Wind Farm. David Lysack, CEO and President of C Speed, will provide an overview of how C Speed worked with UK stakeholders to deliver the trial. He will explain the results of incorporating aviation stakeholder requirements, and outline the outlook for employing Lightwave technology to enable aviation and wind energy interests to coexist.
Airports and air traffic controllers will be interested in learning about this proven mitigation technology because it improves aviation safety and removes aviation concerns involving wind energy. Moreover, a main point of interest is the technologies that have the support of not only the membership of industry groups such as CANSO, but have also undergone trial programmes defined by key aviation stakeholders. The C Speed Lightwave radar is the only mitigation technology thus far that has been successfully trialled against aviation stakeholder requirements and has the potential to be deployed across the UK. This is a pioneering that landmarks efforts between the aviation industry, wind industry, and a mitigation solution provider. In addition, it is the first tangible steps towards delivering a solution to the ATC aviation barriers that face wind energy development.
This session will not be a ‘sales pitch’. Rather it will inform industry on the UK stakeholder requirements and perquisites for the Lightwave trial to take place and how C Speed engaged with aviation stakeholder to deliver a meaningful and useful trial. Lessons learned will be shared as well. The results of the trial will be presented along with a commentary on what they mean to the aviation industry in terms of deploying the Lightwave across the UK to mitigate the impact of wind farms on aviation interests. The focus will not only be on the Lightwave technology, but also on the strategic outlook for the aviation environment and wind energy – on and offshore – in the future. It will show how the Lightwave could be employed to remove ATC aviation barriers.
