Company profile

The European Geostationary Navigation Overlay Service (EGNOS), Europe’s first venture into satellite navigation, improves the open public service offered by the USA’s Global Positioning System (GPS). EGNOS makes GPS suitable for safety critical applications such as flying aircraft or navigating ships through narrow channels. Known as a satellite-based augmentation system (SBAS), EGNOS provides both correction and integrity information about the GPS system, delivering opportunities for Europeans to use the more accurate positioning data for improving existing services or developing a wide range of new services. Near 200 aerodromes and heliports across Europe already published EGNOS-based approach procedures.

Case Studies

  • Title: FLYINGGROUP approved for LPVs
Description: The benefits that FLYINGGROUP is expecting from this upgrade are numerous. One of the main drivers is the increase on accessibility which is critical to all business operators like them. In this sense, LPVs will allow for a reduction in the decision minima down to as low as 200ft. This will ensure successful approaches in conditions that would otherwise disrupt operations based on conventional NPAs at no so well equipped airports. Safety is of course another important factor. The vertical guidance provided to the aircrew during the approach will make it easier to fly and will reduce the risk of controlled flight into terrain (CFIT).
